Leaving - A Meditation
Close your eyes, hit play and listen…
Leaving - A Meditation
In a room where the windows
are flooded with afternoon light,
spacious and open,
you walk in circles
each ring
slightly wider than the last
and like a stone skipped into water
or like seeing into the heart of a tree
your rings widen with a rhythm
that is sometimes marked by joy
and at other times marked by pain;
all of them visible like language on a page to be read,
to be remembered and forgotten
like so many old journals
In this room flooded with light,
you are preparing your heart to leave
Packing boxes,
to be kept and to be given away
to travel far, and to make a new home
You read old letters and love notes
and you are grateful for all the words,
drinking in their energy
You take the clothes you used to love,
so full of embodied memories,
yet unworn now by the nature of
an ever-unfolding life
and you feel their fabric in your hand
- wool, denim, cotton
You, my friend, will always be in one place,
and yet you will always be a cumulation
of everywhere you’ve been,
and everywhere you’ve yet to go
You are a miracle of presence in this way,
to have so many selves in one body,
so many pasts, and so many futures,
all at the same time
and Today, as your growth rings widen
May you be made new
May what you carry with you, bring you health
May you be present with where you’re going,
and with the places and people you are leaving
May you trust the process of change
May choice be yours, as life can feel heavy
May emotional intelligence be yours
May you have courage and community,
to support you as you go from here to there
May you rest gently in the awareness
that your life is a river, made of flowing water that is
everywhere, all at once
at the headwaters, the falls and at the sea
Today as you leave,
May you live fluidly and fully in this whole self,
blessed by the blood and breath
that is pouring through you like a river
